In an attempt to make finding badges easier, a third box has been added for frequent volunteers, those that volunteer weekly or monthly.

Running Club – Tuesdays and Thursdays

Help students get out and run on our great track on Tuesdays and Thursdays, 10:35 – 11:35 and 11:30 – 12:30.
10:35-11:35 (Kindergarten/ First Grade/ Second Grade)
11:30 – 12:30 (Third, Fourth and Fifth Grades)

Read to Me: Kindergarten – Daily starting Monday 9/24

“Read to Me” is reading and enjoying picture books out loud one-on-one with a student. Volunteers must participate in a short training session before reading to a student. Please contact Kristine Edmunds to set up a training time or with any questions (kristine_edmunds@beaverton.k12.or.us)

Jog-A-Thon

Tomorrow, Friday 9/28 is the Jog-A-Thon!

Please send students to school ready to run and with a water bottle. All are welcome to come cheer on the kiddos, please check in as a visitor in the office first.

Jog-A-Thon schedule:

9:00-9:35 4th Grade & SRC (Mrs. Hefty)
9:35-10:10 3rd Grade
10:10-10:45 2nd Grade
10:45-11:20 5th Grade & SRC (Mrs. Cyphers)
11:40-12:15 1st Grade
12:15-12:50 Kindergarten

There is still plenty of time to collect donations in either PledgeStar or in the donation envelopes sent home. All donations are due by Friday, October 5th.

Thank you for helping make our biggest PTC fundraiser of the year a success. All Terra Linda students win when we make our $25,000 goal. If you wonder what that $25,000 pays for, review the PTC budget here.

Scholastic Book Fair

The Fall Book Fair is coming soon!  This year’s fall fair theme is The Enchanted Forest.

The fair will be open Tuesday, October 16 – Friday, October 19 in the school library:

Before school 8:10am – 8:30am

Lunch time 10:45am – 12:30pm

After school Tue, Thur, Fri 3:05pm – 3:30pm, Wed, 1:35pm – 2:00pm

It is also open during Movie Night on Friday, October 19th from 6:00pm – 8:00pm

Look for the book fair flyer in Thursday folders on 10/11.

The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to share your love of reading with your whole class by donating a book to your student’s classroom. Teachers have chosen books they would like to have in their classroom and set them aside behind the cashier.

Box Tops

Help our school earn cash by clipping Box Tops from products and sending them to school! Each one is worth 10¢ and will go toward funding various PTC activities.

Clipped Box Tops can be deposited into the blue box located in the Terra Linda office.

Boy Scouts of America

Cub Scouts just started back up for the year! We’d love to have new members for grades 1-5, especially new 1st graders looking to try it out. Contact justicejay@gmail.com if you are interested.

Eco-School Network

Calling all eco-warriors!

The Eco-School Network is a group of parents in the area who plan and implement green initiatives in schools. Every fall, they hold a training for any new, interested parents. Information below for interested parties.

Our parent leaders and students are getting so darned excited about school gardens, green teams, waste reduction, and dreaming up their next green school project!

Join us for a dessert meet-up on October 1st to connect with our supportive community and learn about our free training that can help you create change at your child’s school. Meetings are from 7-8:15pm at the homes of parent leaders.

The PTC Board has already been planning and preparing for next year!  The board will be presenting a proposed budget for the upcoming 2018-2019 school year at our next meeting.

We know that evenings are busy but we still value your input!   If you are not able to be present at this upcoming meeting will you take this survey?

Wish Lists Purchases

A quick thank you to Terra Linda parents and our community!  Using funds you’ve donated, the PTC voted to buy enrichment supplies from teachers’ Wish Lists.

Some of the items purchased include yoga gear for P.E., 3 new drums for Music, and jumbo checkers, chess, and a tumbling tower to assist SRC teachers in creating an alternative recess area for students.

Thank you all for providing our students with these awesome materials!  There are still some great materials on teachers’ Wish Lists if you were considering purchasing something for your student’s classroom! Teacher Appreciation Week is May 7-11 this year!

Author/Illustrator Michelle Nelson-Schmidt will be visiting Terra Linda Wednesday, May 2.

Ms. Michelle has written six children’s books and spoken to more than 1,000,000 children, visiting more than 800 schools in 37 states. While here, she will share a message of perseverance, courage, overcoming fears, embracing imagination, friendship, and believing in yourself.

Teacher Appreciation Week

Teacher appreciation is coming up May 7-11!  Volunteer Penny Galvin and a handful of other amazing volunteers have a whole week of fun planned for our teachers.

Here is how you can participate too:

  • On Tuesday, please bring in a flower for your teacher. Flowers can also be purchased in the lobby for $1.  All flowers brought in will go towards bouquets for each teacher.
  • On Tuesday, you can also purchase a raffle tickets for your teacher.  Three teachers will be chosen to win prize money to buy supplies for their classroom!  Tickets will be on sale in the lobby before and after school for $1 per ticket.
  • The PTC will be providing meals and treats for the staff throughout the week. Contact Penny Galvin for more information penny.galvin@gmail.com

Dining for Dollars: Bethany Public House

Our final Dining for Dollars event of the year is Sunday, May 20th @ 9:00-9:00.

Enjoy a weekend breakfast, lunch, or dinner out with your family and Terra Linda will receive a percentage of the day’s sales!

PTC Meeting updates

Special thanks to BSD Emergency Coordinator, Ashley Vanderjagt, who shared at our PTC Meeting last night.  She went over the many districtwide security improvements that have been incorporated, emergency protocol & drills, as well as emergency preparedness tips for your family and home.

She is a wealth of information!  If you couldn’t make it to last nights’ meeting but have some questions, please contact Ashley at ashley_vanderjagt@beaverton.k12.or.us,  or visit BSD’s Public Safety Office page.

Passport Club

The world is complex and not always black and white.  Einstein said, “The more I learn, the more I realize I don’t know.”

All the more reason that young people should gain a foundation in geography so that, later on, they are more apt to wrestle with the complexities of life more successfully.

PTC Meeting updates

  • Special thanks to Dr. Shannon Anderson, Cedar Park Principle for sharing at last nights PTC meeting with incoming 6th grade parents on what to expect in the coming year!
  • Mrs. Batsell, along with a panel of teachers, collectively proposed to create Terra Linda’s Future Ready Makerspace.  At last night’s PTC Meeting, the PTC Board approved to kickstart this incredible initiative by gifting the school with $4,500.  You can also donate supplies to get this space off and running.

Passport Club

Get ready! The next Passport Club check date is Thurs. Mar. 22.

Please help your kids locate where the wildebeest migrate, Perito Moreno Glacier caves, figure out which is the largest landlocked country (and also believed to be the origination of the beloved apple), and locate the country with the history behind St. Patrick’s Day.

Congratulations to 3rd Grade Team, Girl Power, for winning the Terra Linda OBOB competition.

Passport Club

Thanks to snow, everyone had an extra week to study February countries! The kids did great today- thank you to all who helped! Hopefully if you watched the Olympics, your kids recognized many or all of the countries!

In March, we’ll have the luck of the Irish with us as we locate where the wildebeest migrate, where Perito Moreno Glacier caves, and figure out which is the largest landlocked country (and also believed to be the origination of the beloved apple).
