Please turn in artwork to your teacher by April 10th. A form was sent home for students to fill out a title tag for their work. This form can also be downloaded HERE.  Art Blast is the evening of Friday April 12th 6-8PM. We will display students’ work & have fun projects for them to do! We hope everyone can join us to celebrate the creativity coming from our very own students!

Green Team

The Terra Linda Green Team encourages families to celebrate Earth Day, April 22, by making one small eco-friendly change. Here are a couple of ideas, but don’t limit yourself to these! You can find more than you can imagine online.

  • Already switched to reusable grocery bags? Take the next step with reusable produce bags!
  • Walk, bike, or scoot to school or an errand once a week.
  • Line dry your clothes on sunny days. Nothing smells better than sheets dried in the sun!
  • Plant a vegetable garden, even if it is just one tomato plant in a pot. There is something magical about a kiddo eating something immediately after picking it.
  • Dedicate one night a week as Leftover Night in order to reduce food waste.
  • When you stock up on sunscreen for the summer, choose a coral-safe brand.
  • Limit shower length to 5 minutes.
  • Cook one meat-free dinner per week.
  • Ready to do some serious spring cleaning? Try making your own cleaning supplies. They are inexpensive and good for the earth.
  • Turn off or unplug all electronics unless they are actively being used.

Just think of the impact we could make in our Terra Linda community if we all commit to just one change!

Art Blast!

It’s time to get creative for Art Blast! Our theme this year is “How Do You Celebrate Nature?!” Students are asked to make art interpreting this theme. Are you inspired by plants? Your animals? A local landscape? Capture your inspiration on paper for us!

Please turn in artwork to your teacher by April 10th. A form is being sent home today for students to fill out a title tag for their work. This form can also be downloaded HERE.  Art Blast is the evening of Friday April 12th 6-8PM. We will display students’ work & have fun projects for them to do! We hope everyone can join us to celebrate the creativity coming from our very own students!

STEAM Night:

Our annual STEAM Night is coming up on April 12th from 6-8 pm. All Terra Linda families are invited to come celebrate and discover the disciplines of Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, and Mathematics (STEAM) together. The evening will include student Science Fair project displays, OMSI presentations, an Usborne Books & More Book Fair, and hands-on inquiry stations.

Entry forms for student Science Fair projects will come home on 2/28 and are due to the main office by 3/15. All students are encouraged to enter a Science Fair project. Please support your student as they conduct and document their Science Fair experiment, but remember it is their work to do. The goal is to have fun and explore some science. If your student needs an idea for a project, here is a helpful website: https://www.sciencebuddies.org/

Scholastic Book Fair

Our winter Scholastic Book Fair continues through Friday, 2/1 at the times below. Online shopping is also available through 2/5 (details below):

Before School: 8:10 am – 8:28 am
Lunch Recess: 10:45 am – 12:30 pm
After School: 3:05pm – 3:30pm
Friday, Before/During Dance: 5:45 pm – 8:00 pm

Terra Linda will receive 55% of sales in Scholastic Dollars to buy books for the school!

The Book Fair is a wonderful opportunity to share your love of reading with your whole class by donating a book to your student’s classroom. Teachers will have chosen books they would like to have in their classroom and set them aside behind the cashier. When purchasing your own books at the fair, you can also chose to contribute additional money, in any amount, that will be used to buy books for the school.

Book Fair Online

Online shopping for the fair offers an expanded selection of books for all ages. Online shopping runs until 2/5. Any books ordered online can ship to the school for free and we’ll get them to you or you can pay to ship to an address.

The online fair is a great way to get a book that we don’t have at the fair, or one that sold out. Books purchased online still count towards additional books for the school.

NOTE: The site has a School Wish List, however the books listed are a default list from Scholastic and do not reflect what the school would like. Please visit the fair at school if you would like to purchase and donate books to classrooms.  Thank you.

PTC Club and Event Happenings:

Fall Book Fair Update

Our fall Scholastic Book Fair was a huge success!

Thank you to all those who purchased books and especially those who donated books to classrooms. Also, a huge thank you to all those who volunteered at the fair.

Book fairs cannot happen without an army of volunteers!

We had sales of just over $6,000 (!) which means we get $3,315 back in Scholastic Dollars, which we use to purchase books from Scholastic. This allowed us to purchase books for the library and the remaining books the teachers picked out for their classrooms. Again, thank you! Your support of the Book Fair made this investment in Terra Linda possible.

Our next Scholastic Book Fair will be January 29 – February 1.

Cedar Mill Taekwondo

It’s not too late to sign up for this introductory class at Cedar Mill Taekwondo!

Classes start on Oct. 29th

Sign up your child for 3 weeks of class and the entire registration fee of $49, which includes uniform and belt, will be donated directly to your TERRA LINDA PTC.

Register online

PTC Meeting

Join us at the upcoming PTC meeting on Tues. Nov 6!

We will be sharing critical tips for ensuring your student’s academic success based on research from Columbia University. Also, learn what we are doing at Terra Linda to grow our readers and writers.

Running ClubRunning Club

Running Club will be presenting ribbons and medals at the assembly for everyone that has completed a half marathon or a full marathon!

Did you know that we count every lap your child runs at Terra Linda?  Reminder you child to report laps ran during brain breaks, PE, and during recess.  We also count races!  So if your child has run a fun run, we will record those miles too!

Option Schools Information Night

Terra Linda will host an Options Information Night on Thursday, November 1 at 6:30 in our Cafeteria. This information is important for 4th and 5th Grade parents and students. However, all Terra Linda families are welcome. Much like looking at colleges in your junior and senior year of high school, it is important to think ahead.

Applications for the 2019-2020 school year will be available starting Monday, October 15, 2018. Students may only select one option on their application, so do some early investigation of the options online.

Applications must be received no later than Friday, December 7, 2018 at 4:00 p.m. (PST).

In addition to Terra Linda’s information night, the District will be holding open houses. Please see the Open House schedule for details.

OBOBOBOB

Registration will remain open through January.

The next meeting for OBOB will be on November 20, after school in the library until 4:00.  This meeting will focus on the book, Real Friends.

Please contact Kelly Olson kellyaolson@gmail.com with questions
